First off.... NO RAIN! All season long it has been so rainy, but last weekend we were very lucky. We had beautiful weather. For this trip, we rode part of the Great Allegheny Passage. We drove to West Newton, PA, and hired a couple to drive us to Cumberland, MD. They were so nice. We chatted along the way, and before long we were there. The next morning we took off on our 67 mile bike trip to our first destination on our bikes. This would be Confluence, PA. The first 20 miles was all uphill! It was a slight elevation, on cinders, maybe pedelling 8-9 mph. We thought we would never get there, BUT when we reached the Eastern Continental Divide, it was downhill from there. Some highlights of todays journey were:
- Crossing the Eastern Continental Divide
- Crossed the Mason Dixon Line
- The beautiful B & B
- The nice people we met along the way
This was the B & B we were staying at on Sunday night. We dropped our car off here on Friday. One of the workers here drove us to Cumberland, MD.
Day 1 of Biking:
We headed off after eating breakfast. Our next destination was to Confluence, PA.
What added to the adventure, was everything that needed to be packed on the back of the bike. Remember-we were away from our car for 2 days!
Sights along the way:
After 67 miles of biking today, we made it to our destination in Confluence, PA. where we stayed at The Rivers Edge B & B.
This was the view at dinner at the B & B.
Day 2 of Biking:
More Adventure and Fewer Hills.
Nature--there is nothing like it!
We went through a few tunnels, including one that was 9/10's of a mile long. This one pictured was abandoned.
As quickly as it started, 20 minutes later the rain was gone. We had to stop and put our full rain gear on!
This was a great adventure. 126 miles in two days! Now on to our next trip-Lake Chataqua. As always, we anticipate our next adventure.
